Hi-Low Peplum Skirts

* Boss told me last week that I am becoming known as an Ankara (African Print fabric, not the capital of Turkey) designer. Not bad, right?
I thought about it and realized all (or at least 90%) of the items I have made in the last 3 months and maybe even further were all in ankara fabric. Probably because I know a lot of Africans and they place orders for ankara outfits as those cannot be readily found in stores over here :).

Anyway, it was time for a palette cleanser and once again, it started with a discussion with my sister.

Me: I bought this black and white knit fabric to make a quick peplum skirt. I'm thinking of flipping the fabric for the peplum so I can create some contrast.
Sis: You're making skirts, right?
Me: Maybe I can get 2 skirts out of the fabric. I'll trace the other knit skirt I made.
Sis: Skirts ... one for me.
Me: Oh. Right. Guess I could make yours first and perfect the process before I make mine.

She had her skirt (yellow floral one below) about 2 hours later. I had mine a few days later.
(And, yes, I did get 2 black and white skirts from the fabric. I'll post pictures of the 2nd one another time).

** We wore them to church on Father's Day - pictures below.

Black and White at the AABE 2015 National Conference

* Hi everyone, first off I apologize for skipping last week's post. With everything going on last week, it skipped my mind and I did have more videos from the fashion show in the last post. I'll put those up later.
Lesson learned: use the 'schedule posting' functionality provided; it is your friend. :)
** Last week, I was in North Carolina for the 2015 conference of the American Association of Blacks in Energy. When packing for the trip, I decided to 'drink my own kool-aid' and take ZCD pieces (ZCD ==> ZiChiE Designs). After I packed the first 2, I realized I could go for black and white for the entire conference and that's what I did.
*** Enjoy the pictures below of my outfits ...

All 4 Looks

Day 1
ZCD Piece = high waist 6-panel skirt (removed the suspenders)

Day 2
ZCD Piece = maxi dress with draped neckline

Day 3

Day 4

(it is high waisted as seen below and here)

Hello Tulle Skirts

* Earlier this year, one of my best (est) clients sent me a picture of a tulle skirt and wanted me to make her one. It took over 12 yards of tulle (6 layers) but I did it!!!! It's the gray midi skirt below. Zi saw it and requested a mini version in black for a dance performance during our church's annual banquet. The original plan was for her to rip it off to reveal a white skirt underneath so I made it a wrap skirt. She didn't need to rip it off in the end instead she wore the white lace skirt (here) and had the tulle skirt underneath.
** One day, we had a photo shoot where Zi styled the skirt in different ways for her Instagram page: @e_fazion (check it out) and then I styled it with another ZiChiE piece. Here are some pictures:
*** We can make you one in black, grey or any other color available on our Etsy store: ZiChiEDesigns
