Sheer Panel Skirt

Hello friends!!!

Heads up: this week's post is going to have more pictures than I usually have.
No special reason except that I was unable to decide which pictures to cut from the ones we took on Sunday.
So ... on with the post!!!

The first time I saw a skirt with a sheer panel, I knew I wanted one and that I was going to make one for myself. That was probably a year and a half ago but better late than never, right?
I bought the brocade fabric at the same time as the gold and black one in this post so it's been about a year since I've had it.
We picked red as the main color for my choir at RCCG Love Assembly for last Sunday (10/25) and to be honest, I hadn't thought much about what I was going to wear. Red is one of my favorite colors so I knew I had at least one red dress, pair of pants, blouse, skirt, sweater and pair of shoes.
I recently made up my mind (again!) to work on using what I have in my fabric stash - mainly because I just moved and couldn't believe how many boxes of fabric were loaded in the truck. While designing a dress to use up some white lace, I took a detour and drew up the skirt. I didn't get to work on it immediately as I had a custom order to finish but I got the skirt done just in time to wear it on Sunday!!!!

Enjoy the pictures below (see if you notice the photobomber).

ZCD @ SAANE 2015

Hello there

The same client (Ms. N) from my previous YAPPIES post (link) invited me to partner up and share a vendor table at a SAANE event last Saturday (June 13) and below are pictures from the event.
SAANE = Semi-Annual African Networking Event

I would like to say a big THANK YOU one of my favorite men. It was his birthday and we had made plans. Being the great supporter he is, he delayed our plans and said I could not miss this opportunity. Thanks, Boss.

** Enjoy pictures from the event below.

Spots & Stripes Dress: January's Make Of The Month

  * At the beginning of this year, I set a goal to have a #MakeOfTheMonth every month. This will be something I make because I want to - not because of a client's order, special request or for sale on the Etsy store.

** The #MakeOfTheMonth for January is a Spots & Stripes dress that I sketched on a post-it note sometime in 2014. The design was for a fit and flare dress with spots on the bodice and stripes on the skirt. I didn't get a chance to do anything about the sketch till now. I did change the original design by adding stripes to the bodice and I think that was a smart choice. Enjoy the pictures below :).

I was going to get regular polka dots and a matching striped fabric but these 2 together caught my eye and won't let go.

The initial plan was to have an A-line skirt but I've recently been wanting to make box pleats so I did.

As I previously mentioned, I was going to make the entire bodice out of the spotted fabric but after I took a 2nd look, I decided to bring the stripes up into the bodice.

I wanted to do something different for the back so I added a cut-out but I made the band wide enough to cover any bra straps. :)

Ankara Border Skirt

  * This is the second Border Skirt from ZiChiE Designs!!!! It's called the 'Border Skirt' because the fun details are in the top and bottom borders. This is one way to show your love for Ankara fabric without wearing an entire Ankara outfit. Dress it up, dress it down ... still gorgeous. I started making the skirt in the summer but many things got in the way and I did not get to finish until last Saturday (12/6) which turned out to be perfect - notice how I am matching the Christmas tree?
** Additional details: the skirt has box pleats all the way around and 2 'invisible' pockets.
