Leather & Metal Skirt: February's Make Of The Month

*   The #MakeOfTheMonth for February was a Leather and Metal Skirt. The leather part of the skirt was inspired by See Kate Sew and because I always want a little something special in my handiwork, I decided to add gold groomets around the bottom of the skirt.

**  February and March so far have been busy (good busy) so it took me a while to get this done but I’m glad I saw it through. I am currently working on 5 hours of sleep in 2 days but I wanted to get this post up .. then I'm out for the night.
The project for March is in progress and I hope to have it done in time for next week’s post. Enjoy the pictures below :).

Custom Order - Sight Unseen

* Miss W placed her order with a phone call, 2 emails and a skirt (along with the outfit fabric) sent to me through a friend. This is the first time I ever made a custom order without actually seeing the client and it fit!!!
Normally, I ask my clients to come in for a fitting when I am about 80% done with their outfits so you can imagine my concern when Miss W called and said she won't be able to make it into town (Chester, PA from New York) as planned. I was a bit concerned but with one shot to get this right, I re-checked all her measurements, sent her pictures of the progress and made changes as she suggested over text messages.
** After she received the outfit, she sent me a message saying "Thank you. It fit perfectly and I got a lot of compliments'. Phew! Thank God :) and I mean that sincerely.
*** In retrospect, the lighting could have been better ...

Hello Tulle Skirts

* Earlier this year, one of my best (est) clients sent me a picture of a tulle skirt and wanted me to make her one. It took over 12 yards of tulle (6 layers) but I did it!!!! It's the gray midi skirt below. Zi saw it and requested a mini version in black for a dance performance during our church's annual banquet. The original plan was for her to rip it off to reveal a white skirt underneath so I made it a wrap skirt. She didn't need to rip it off in the end instead she wore the white lace skirt (here) and had the tulle skirt underneath.
** One day, we had a photo shoot where Zi styled the skirt in different ways for her Instagram page: @e_fazion (check it out) and then I styled it with another ZiChiE piece. Here are some pictures:
*** We can make you one in black, grey or any other color available on our Etsy store: ZiChiEDesigns

Knit & Leather Date Night Skirt

* Soon as I scheduled date night last month (February) with my best friend I knew what I wanted to wear (if I could finish it in time). I had been thinking of making a midi pencil skirt for a while and I took this as my chance to do so. I had a week and a couple of days and I wasn't going to bother with a perfectly drafted pattern so I chose some knit fabric from my stash. For something special, I decided to add a leather waistband.
** Thanks to Memkoh's 4 Ways to Wear: White Button-Down Shirt feature  on Style Me Africa, I've been re-thinking how I wear my own shirts and I knew this skirt would be the perfect pairing. Unfortunately, it's been really cold weather lately so the only time I wore the skirt out, I wore it with a sweater, tights and boots. I recently got a chance to style it with the dress shirt ... hope you like it.
