One Day Dress w/Looooong Sleeves

Quote from Zi's Facebook post on this outfit:
"So this is how my Saturday was spent.....making this dress!
This is my first 1 day job (made on Saturday....worn on Sunday)!
I actually procrastinated studying for Anatomy for this.
Smh...
Anyways...it's an easy to wear, zipless, buttonless, ropeless, curve curving stretch dress with extremely loooong sleeves!
Lol...d uniquely long sleeves were a mistake turned original.
Let's just say it will keep my arms warm for a looooong time!"

Knit Dress with Ruffle Hem

   * Considering how versatile knit is, I wonder why I waited so long to make knit dresses. Think about it: no need for a zipper (and the precise placement that comes with it). The 1st one was the black & white maxi and this is my 2nd. The dress in this post was created using another dress as a pattern. I got to use my serger for all the side and joining seams and for gathering the ruffles. Easy, peasy, beautiful.

ZiChiE Designs on Etsy

On September 11, 2014, I opened an Etsy shop for ZiChiE Designs.

Please check it out here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ZiChiEDesigns

Besides the fact that I can use the money, I did it because it would keep my creative juices flowing and give me a reason to create new items. There are times that I have ideas that I know I cannot personally use at the moment - Ankara baby booties for example - and because of that, I don't push myself to bring those ideas to life. Now I can birth those ideas and offer them up to anyone who could use them. :)

So check out the store and if you see something you like, go ahead and get it.
If you like something on there but want it in a different color/fabric/print, let me know and we'll make it happen.

As of today, here are the 11 items up for sale:

3-Ways-To-Wear Square Hem Skirt

Patchwork Romper

Ankara Beaded Earrings

Multi-Colored Ankara Clutch

Square Diamond Ankara Earrings

Ankara Beaded Earrings, Bracelet and Necklace Set

Ankara Beaded Necklace

Ankara Elastic Belt

Ankara Beaded Earrings and Necklace Set

The Making of Ms. P's Shift Dress

    * Last week, I made a loose fitting shift dress for Ms. P. This is the first time I've not really had to worry about perfect fit in the bust, waist and hips and that gave me more time to document the process. So here it is; my diary of making Ms. P's Shift Dress.

To begin with, I took Ms. P's measurements and later on, she sent me a dress similar to what she wanted.

I used the See & Sew pattern above as a starting point.

I created a pattern from the dress using the See & Sew pattern and made alterations to better suit Ms. P's needs.

These are the pattern pieces for the bodice. The print fabric is lovely and my priority was to keep the fabric pattern aligned in the final product.

Bodice pattern pieces attached at the shoulders.

Bodice pieces lined and raw edges finished.

Sleeve pieces lined and raw edges finished.

All pieces put together - here's the front of the dress.

Here's the back of the dress with an invisible zipper.

I added some contrasting fabric in the slit.
A little something extra from the back view, eh?
